बिजनौर हिंसा मामले में 83 में से 48 आरोपियों को मिली जमानत
पिछले साल 20 दिसंबर को उत्तर प्रदेश के कई जिलों में CAA का प्रदर्शन हिंसक हो गया. बिजनौर के नगीना में भी हिंसा हुई. इसमें दो लोगों की मौत हो गई थी. पुलिस ने इस मामले में कई लोगों के खिलाफ केस दर्ज कर गिरफ्तार किया था. बीते बुधवार अदालत ने इस मामले में गिरफ्तार किए गए 83 लोगों में से 48 को सबूतों के अभाव में जमानत दे दी. सुनवाई के दौरान अदालत ने कहा कि पुलिस इस मामले में आरोपियों के खिलाफ सबूत पेश कर पाने में नाकाम रही.

नागरिकता संशोधन कानून के खिलाफ कांग्रेस शासित पंजाब और राजस्थान ने प्रस्ताव पास कर दिया है. इसपर महाराष्ट्र सरकार अब तक चुप है. महाराष्ट्र में 'महाविकास अघाड़ी' की सरकार है और कांग्रेस इसका हिस्सा है. CAA के खिलाफ प्रस्ताव को लेकर तीनों दलों में एक राय नहीं है. एनसीपी प्रस्ताव के पक्ष में नहीं है. पार्टी का कहना है कि जो भी राज्य CAA के खिलाफ प्रस्ताव ला रहे हैं, वह जनता की भावनाओं के साथ खेल रहे हैं.

Dr Kafeel Khan, the Uttar Pradesh doctor who was jailed after the death of over 60 children at a government hospital in 2017, was arrested in Mumbai late Wednesday night by Uttar Pradesh Police. He is accused of giving a provocative speech on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA at a talk at the Aligarh Muslim University last month. Dr Khan was arrested after a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against him in December, sources say.

A court in west Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor has granted bail to 48 people accused by the state police of rioting and attempted murder during last month's violent protests over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA. Bijnor, 161 km from Delhi, was one of the UP districts that saw large-scale violence. Two people were killed during the protests there on December 20 last year, and the cops have admitted that one of those who died took a police bullet. This is the only admission of a death from police firing by the cops across the state.

The government has extended the upper limit for permitting abortions to 24 weeks, from the current 20 weeks, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters at a Cabinet briefing today, highlighting the increase as a "progressive reform (that) gives women reproductive rights over their bodies". The news comes about four months after the centre told the Supreme Court that right to reproductive autonomy did not outweigh State's interest in protecting a foetus' life and the 20 week limit could not be extended in a blanket manner.

पिछले साल 20 दिसंबर को उत्तर प्रदेश के कई जिलों में CAA का प्रदर्शन हिंसक हो गया. बिजनौर के नगीना में भी हिंसा हुई. इसमें दो लोगों की मौत हो गई थी. पुलिस ने इस मामले में कई लोगों के खिलाफ केस दर्ज कर गिरफ्तार किया था. बीते बुधवार अदालत ने इस मामले में गिरफ्तार किए गए 83 लोगों में से 48 को सबूतों के अभाव में जमानत दे दी. सुनवाई के दौरान अदालत ने कहा कि पुलिस इस मामले में आरोपियों के खिलाफ सबूत पेश कर पाने में नाकाम रही.

Dr Kafeel Khan Arrested By UP Police Over A Month After Speech In Aligarh

Dr Kafeel Khan, the Uttar Pradesh doctor who was jailed after the death of over 60 children at a government hospital in 2017, was arrested in Mumbai late Wednesday night by Uttar Pradesh Police. He is accused of giving a provocative speech on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA at a talk at the Aligarh Muslim University last month. Dr Khan was arrested after a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against him in December, sources say.

"No Proof": UP Police Face Questions As 48 CAA Protesters Get Bail

A court in west Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor has granted bail to 48 people accused by the state police of rioting and attempted murder during last month's violent protests over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA. Bijnor, 161 km from Delhi, was one of the UP districts that saw large-scale violence. Two people were killed during the protests there on December 20 last year, and the cops have admitted that one of those who died took a police bullet. This is the only admission of a death from police firing by the cops across the state.

Abortions To Be Allowed At 24 Weeks, Government Approves Changes To Law

The government has extended the upper limit for permitting abortions to 24 weeks, from the current 20 weeks, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters at a Cabinet briefing today, highlighting the increase as a "progressive reform (that) gives women reproductive rights over their bodies". भीमा-कोरेगांव केस को आज अचानक केंद्र सरकार ने एनआईए को सौंप दिया. एक दिन पहले ही महाराष्ट्र सरकार ने साल 2018 में हुए भीमा-कोरेगांव हिंसा की समीक्षा का फैसला लिया था. केंद्र के इस फैसले की महाराष्ट्र सरकार ने निंदा की. इस फैसले पर राष्ट्रवादी कांग्रेस पार्टी के नेता शरद पवार ने एतराज जताया. वहीं राज्य गृह मंत्री अनिल देशमुख ने कहा कि इस बारे में राज्य सरकार से पूछा तक नहीं गया. उन्होंने ट्वीट किया कि जब राज्य सरकार इस मामले की तह में जा रही थी, तब ये फ़ैसला किया गया. एक दिन पहले महाराष्ट्र के गृह मंत्री और एनसीपी नेता अनिल देशमुख ने इसे लेकर गुरुवार को मीटिंग रखी थी. गृह मंत्री ने इस बारे में कहा था कि वह पुलिस को मिले सबूतों के आधार पर उनके द्वारा इस मामले की जानकारी मिलने के बाद ही इसकी समीक्षा करेंगे और किसी नतीजे तक पहुंचेंगे.

संशोधित नागरिकता कानून (CAA) को वापस लेने की मांग करते हुए केरल में रविवार को गणतंत्र दिवस पर माकपा की अगुवाई वाले सत्तारूढ़ वाम लोकतांत्रिक मोर्चा (एलडीएफ) ने उत्तरी हिस्से से 620 किलोमीटर लंबी मानव श्रृंखला बनाकर प्रदर्शन किया. एलडीएफ ने उत्तरी केरल के कसारगोड से सुदूर दक्षिणतम हिस्से कालियाक्कविलाई तक मानव श्रृंखला बनाई. मुख्यमंत्री पिनराई विजयन और भाकपा नेता कनम राजेंद्रन ने तिरूवनंतपुरम में इस प्रदर्शन में भाग लिया. एलडीएफ ने दावा किया कि इस मानव श्रृंखला में करीब 60-70 लाख लोगों ने हिस्सा लिया. यह मानव श्रृंखला चार बजे बनाई गई जिसके बाद संविधान की प्रस्तावना पढ़ी गई.

महाराष्ट्र के गृह मंत्री और एनसीपी के वरिष्ठ नेता अनिल देशमुख साल 2018 में हुए भीमा कोरेगांव हिंसा मामले की समीक्षा करेंगे. इसको लेकर गुरुवार को मीटिंग रखी गई है. मीटिंग के लिए पुणे पुलिस के आला अधिकारियों को मुंबई बुलाया गया है. अनिल देशमुख उनसे बात करेंगे. गृह मंत्री ने इस बारे में कहा कि वह पुलिस को मिले सबूतों के आधार पर उनके द्वारा इस मामले की जानकारी मिलने के बाद ही इसकी समीक्षा करेंगे और किसी नतीजे तक पहुंचेंगे.

रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने बुधवार को कहा कि भारतीय मूल्यों में सभी धर्मों को बराबर माना जाता है और यही वजह है कि हमारा देश धर्मनिरपेक्ष है और यह पाकिस्तान की तरह धर्मशासित देश कभी नहीं बना. दिल्ली में एनसीसी के गणतंत्र दिवस के उपलक्ष्य में आयोजित शिविर में रक्षा मंत्री ने कहा, ‘‘हम (भारत) कहते हैं कि हम धर्मों के बीच भेदभाव नहीं करेंगे. तो हम ऐसा क्यों करेंगे? हमारा पड़ोसी देश तो यह ऐलान कर चुका है कि उनका एक धर्म है. उन्होंने खुद को धर्मशासित देश घोषित किया है. हमने ऐसी घोषणा नहीं की है.''

Rs 4.5 crore cash, largely deposits in savings bank accounts, have been withdrawn in panic from the Kayalpattinam branch of the Central Bank of India in Tamil Nadu's Tuticorin district since Saturday - a figure that is six times higher than normal. An advertisement on January 11 that called for mandatory submission of National Population Registry letter as part of its Know Your Customer or KYC drive has touched a raw nerve and those opposing the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) are protesting this way. Many say they are also scared that their money could be blocked.

The Maharashtra government is reviewing the cases related to the 2018 Bhima Koregaon violence, for which 10 activists were jailed during the previous BJP-led rule in the state. Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, a senior NCP leader, has called senior officials of Pune Police to Mumbai for a meeting. He says he will take a decision on the future of the case after he has all the information from the police on the evidence against the jailed activists. The case has been politically charged, with the BJP facing allegations of jailing activists who were opposed to its ideology and branding them as "urban Naxals".
