वाराणासी की एक पीड़िता और उसके साथी गवाह ने 16 अगस्त को सुप्रीम कोर्ट के सामने खुद को जला लिया. दोनों काफी जल गए. पहले गवाह साथी की मौत हुई और अब पीड़िता की मौत हो गई है. दोनों ने जलाने के पहले फेसबुक लाइव कर जेल में बंद बसपा सांसद अतुल राय पर आरोप लगाया. पुलिस अधिकारियों के नाम लिए कि उनसे तमाम गुहार के बाद भी पुलिस ने कोई मदद नहीं की. 2019 का यह मामला था लेकिन उसे इंसाफ नहीं मिला था. उल्टा पुलिस ने पीड़िता को परेशान करना शुरू कर दिया.
